Vincent, an adolescent, has been raised lovingly by his mother, Marie, but she has always refused to reveal who his father is. He finally discovers that it’s a certain Oscar Pormenor, an egoistic and cynical Parisian publisher.

Vincent develops a violent plan of revenge, but his meeting with Joseph, a man living on the fringe of society, has a profound impact on his life, as well as that of his mother.
